This is Debian GNU/Linux's prepackaged version of C News 
by Geoff Collyer and Henry Spencer.

Also included is the dbz library by Jon Zeeff, with modifications by
David Butler, Mark Moraes, and Henry Spencer, and an inews reimplementation 
by Otmar Lendl <lendl@cosy.sbg.ac.at>.

This package was put together by Otmar Lendl (lendl@cosy.sbg.ac.at)
and Roman Hodek (Roman.Hodek@informatik.uni-erlangen.de). The sources
are from ftp.sunet.se, /pub/news/transport/c. C News does not use a
numbered version scheme, but sets of patches. This version includes
them up to CR.G.

The changes in this package are essentially the addition of
preconfigured `config.h' files and so forth and the addition of
support for the Debian package maintenance scheme, by adding various
debian.* files.

A very small patch has been applied to fix a small problem in
the conf/update.* scripts. They need a #!/bin/sh line otherwise
make cannot execute them.

Patch added 08/18/97 to relay/transmit.c (function trcmd): cnews here
used sh commands like "<file (cmd)" that couldn't be parsed by bash
(but by the original sh). The patch changes that to "(cmd) <file".
This patch was suggested on some de.admin.news.? newsgroup and sent to
me for Debian by thorsten@bugfix.westfalen.de.
